Marine Invertebrates:
Animals without backbones are called vertebrate-less animals or
invertebrates. A large number of invertebrates live in the water, and they are called aquatic invertebrates. Although some of them live in the
freshwater, the majority of aquatic invertebrates live in saltwater.
Creatures such as squids, octopuses, lobsters, or shrimps, crabs, shellfish, sea urchins, starfish, feather stars, corals, and sea anemones are marine invertebrates. In addition, zooplankton, rotifers or wheel animals, lugworms, sea squirts, sea cucumbers and sea hares are all categorized into marine invertebrates. Therefore, all animals living in the sea other than fish, reptiles (sea turtles, sea snakes) and sea mammals (whales, dolphins) are marine invertebrates. Marine invertebrates comprise many groups of different organisms and occur from the sea surface to the sea floor and into the substrate. They represent the vast majority of marine bio diversity. |
