Marine Fish Invertebrates Corals Macroalgae

Mushroom Corals:

Mushroom Corals are also referred to as Mushroom Anemones, Disc Anemones, False Corals, or corallimorphs. These corals share some of the same features of both true anemones and corals. They are found throughout the world, mainly on rocky reefs.

Mushroom Corals that have long tentacles are aggressive toward other types of corals, so provide them with adequate space. Different genera and species of Mushroom Corals have different light and water flow requirements, so select those specimens that are most appropriate for your aquarium.

Mushroom Corals contain the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae, and should be maintained in aquariums with adequate lighting. These corals can also be fed meaty foods such as brine shrimp or plankton to increase their growth rate. Some Mushroom Corals benefit from the addition of iodine and trace elements to promote growth.

Mushroom Corals reproduce asexually in an aquarium through several processes including budding, fission, and pedal laceration.
